My family was up in TC this last week and stopped in to the Blue Heron 2. First let me say that the staff was very friendly extremely knowledgeable about the menu. I asked about the soup and she offered to being me a sample. We also asked about the salad that came with the meal she went and asked the chef and then came back to me and told me all about it. They were also very nice to our 2 kids. Now the food. I had the Brisket sandwich and the salmon chowder. Jess had the Turkey sandwich. They bake the bread that they use and everything is fresh. Everything was perfect. This is a must if your in the Traverse City area.

Great little breakfast and lunch place in historic Old Town, TC. Everything I've had has been amazing. Just ate an breakfast dish called Bubble and Squeak which, in lesser hands, could have been just corned beef and potatoes with an egg on top. But here they've added braised brussel sprouts and the freshest fingerling potatoes to make a dish I'll be craving for months. Super friendly and accommodating servers. Expect a wait cuz I think it's now been discovered.

A great lunch option for a great price! Have been a couple of times and tried everything from their cookies and pastries to their sandwiches and soups. Their pumpkin doughnut is one of the best I've ever had and their sandwiches are fantastic and served with pasta salad and a fruit mix. The service and wait time are excellent.

Fantastic experience. Friendly, attentive, professional staff. Unique menu. Nicely decorated, and immaculately clean. Reasonably priced. The chef taking time to visit patrons and thank them for coming in was a great touch.

My husband and I had lunch here yesterday, and it was fine but nothing special. I had the roasted vegetable sandwich and he had the chicken pesto. The sandwiches were served with a small side of pasta salad and some honeydew melon. The sign out front advertised local ingredients, but the tomato in the pasta salad and on my husband's sandwich was obviously not local (pale red and mealy looking) and I thought some local fruit would have made a better side then the melon as well. Service was friendly and very quick despite it being pretty busy when we arrived. I really wanted to try a doughnut or cookie, but while waiting to be seated a couple bought some cookies and when the waitress got them out of the case it disrupted a colony of fruit flies which was pretty disgusting. That turned us off completely, so there was no chance of us trying a bakery item unfortunately. I'm afraid that probably all of the bread sitting out on racks was probably full of fruit flies too. I know it's that time of year, but it's something that needs to be taken care of really. Anyway, as I said, the meal was fine but nothing special so we probably won't return. It was also pretty expensive for a sandwich compared to other (better) local shops.

My husband and I stopped here for first breakfast while on our honeymoon and we instantly fell in love with the place! The food is incredible and the staff are some of the friendliest we've met. Our waitress was so kind and gave us a lot of local recommendations and we could tell that the staff cares about their customers. She even told us that the coffee we were drinking (which was excellent as well) was local from another local coffee shop in the city. Definitely will be recommending to our friends and family!

I have tried this new cafe twice so far. First time was for lunch, the sandwich I got togo was good, it came in a box with what I thought was only chips then when I got past the chips I found some fruit, for a second I thought I had been transported to the Marry Poppins movie, it was nice to get more than I thought I was getting for lunch. While I was there I found they had baked goods, some of which were gluten free, I picked up a couple cookies for a gf friend, they were good! This morning I tried a couple donuts, they were great, the custard bismarck was the better of the two, I wish it was a tad larger because the custard inside was fantastic! I'm happy to have this new place in town I will be trying them out for breakfast some time soon, I hope they do well here.

Best spot in Traverse City for breakfast and lunch. Homemade bread and baked goods are top notch, love their bread. Try the chocolate cherry cookie with chocolate icing-cakelike and surprisingly not too sweet. The soups are homemade and interesting. I had a french onion type with cream and swiss in it, a thin broth, and so remarkable! The breakfasts and salads and sanwiches are very unique and unforgettable! This food is very creative and the more I have eaten here, the more I realize how special and amazing this place is! Delicious!!

Stopped in for the first time on Tuesday of this week. Bright, pleasant ambience, and a very interesting menu. Healthy stuff, without being over- the- top about it. I had a different and delicious take on a grilled cheese -- Fontina cheese and a lavender-blueberry coulis grilled on some excellent sourdough bread, panini-style. My wife had the black bean burger and loved it as well. Staff really knew the menu well, were exceptionally helpful and cheerful. Pricing was very reasonable and the place gives off a very positive vibe altogether. Well worth a visit anytime you want an interesting menu with very good food and great service. PS. They have a small but killer bakery case as well!

I think this was the best breakfast I ever had! From the incredibly friendly staff to the wiz in the kitchen, you cannot go wrong here. We did have to wait some for our breakfast to arrive, but , man oh man, it was worth the wait!

We stopped here on a day when the Farmer's Market was in the parking garage across the way. For a small place that seems rather ordinary from the outside, we were surprised by the food. Both of our dishes were immensely huge and tasted fresh and wonderful. Definitely a place that we won't overlook anymore!

I really wanted to like this place considering the staff is friendly, however it was Literally the greasiest meal ive had in my adult life. I had the Ham and Cheese Sandwich, they cut the apples way too thick to put on a sandwich, the bread was grilled on the flat top and was drenched in butter, the carmelized onions were over salted, it also smelled like cleaning chemicals....The squash salad was SO over dressed with balsamic and the squash itself was cooked beyond oblivion. I hate yelp. And i hate bad reviews but my hope is the kitchen will see this and fix the problem. I wont be back.

Great breakfast and service is good, just a little slow. It wasn't a busy Saturday either -there were about 4 tables occupied and 2 waitresses. If you're in rush, don't expect to be in and out. My husband and I weren't in a rush, so we sat back and relaxed. The coffee is delicious! The food, very good! We'll be back.

This is comfort food people. Comfort = greasy and yummy and bad for you. Yes they try to make it sound good for you by offering locally based ingredients, but that doesn't stop them from using salt! The portions are large and filling. The pricing is where it should be. I would recommend if you are looking for comfort food.

The food was great. I had the best chicken salad sandwich ever, with some local flair given its containing cherries. My wife had a turkey asparagus sandwich that was every bit as good. The cookies are made from scratch and outstanding. The only nick on the food was that they had no soup at all, in spite of the fact we were there at the beginning of the lunch shift and they were advertising soup specials. The service was lousy. They were slammed when we arrived where the manager had just sent home one of this two waiters because they it was slow moments earlier. We were there on a Sunday at 12:15 p.m. on Labor Day weekend, so no excuse for such poor judgement. We were given a breakfast menu so we walked out since we were looking to eat lunch. I forgot my smartphone and the waitress caught up with us outside. I explained we were looking for sandwiches where she then informed me they also had a lunch menu so we went back and had lunch. The waiter that remained soldiered on and did her best. The bathrooms were not filthy, but they also weren't pristine either. They simply lacked the staff to keep up. Monday morning (Labor Day), I attempted to find out on-line and calling the place whether they were open for breakfast during their normal times. Neither source provided any info specific to the holiday; a driveby confirmed they weren't open. So another example of the poor service demonstrated by this establishment. Their chef deserves better!

Really, really, really wanted to like this place, but after several visits with indifferent and finally outright rude service, I give up. There are far, far better places for breakfast in Traverse City. Every time I visited the rude head waitress hung out in the front of the house while my party waited and waited. Breakfast really shouldn't take 45 minutes, and apparently the staff thinks it's unreasonable for patrons to want hot water for tea or their entire order to arrive at the table without a second or third request. I hope for the sake of the owners they can find better staff, because as I said I had high hopes for the food, which would be good, if it could get to the table without rudeness.

Very good breakfast! Highly recommend the whole wheat sourdough bread and cherry jam. Excellent coffee. Sit outside if the weather is nice.
